Condors Basketball

Women’s Basketball
Conestoga women’s basketball secured a thrilling 62-61 overtime victory against Fanshawe on January 31st. It was a tight game right from tip off with the Condors holding a narrow 29-28 lead at the half. The Condors did their best to finish it in regulation but a clutch three pointer from the Falcons forced overtime. With leaders Maddy Webber and Jamila Beckford both fouling out, the Condors showed their depth and held their ground in the extra period, edging out the Falcons by a single point. Andie Maylen led with 16 points, while Jamila Beckford posted a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Mae Drost added 13 points, 13 rebounds, and a game-high seven assists.

Men’s Basketball

Emanuel Liyaw grabbed 10 rebounds, and the team finished at 36.4% from the field and 50% from the free-throw line.

Condors Badminton

The Conestoga Condors hosted the OCAA Badminton Invitational on January 31st and February 1st, where several athletes performed strongly. Pravin Viswanathan and Nolan Bridge advanced in men’s singles, while Viswanathan and AJ Vitin won their first-round match in the men’s doubles category. Ryan Tu and Nolan Bridge reached the men’s doubles consolation semifinals, and Mariam Muqeem and Nandini Sharma made it to the women’s doubles quarterfinals. The Condors showcased strong teamwork, making strides as they prepare for the OCAA Championships on February 14-15 at Doon Campus.

Condors Indoor Soccer

The Condors indoor soccer team competed at the George Brown Invitational at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan on January 31st. Here are the results from both the men’s and women’s games:

  • Men’s Team: The Condors played a 0-0 tie against Sheridan, followed by a 2-0 win over St. Clair and a 3-0 victory against Laurier Brantford. However, they were defeated 1-0 by Fanshawe in the semifinals. It was a tough loss for the team as they only conceded 1 goal in 4 matches and controlled much of the play in their lone loss.

  • Women’s Team: The team had a strong showing, drawing 0-0 against Sheridan but falling 2-0 to St. Clair. They bounced back with a 3-1 win over Laurier Brantford, a 1-0 win on penalties against Centennial, and capped off their tournament with a 3-1 victory over St. Clair in the championship match! The goals in the championship match came from Hayley Mackie, Ashley Blazek, and Claire Di Benedetto to capture the title. It was an electric start to the indoor soccer season.
