What Is Athletic Therapy?

Athletic Therapy is a health care profession that specializes in the care of musculoskeletal disorders (muscles, bones, joints) as they relate to active in individuals pursuing an active lifestyle. Conestoga offers free athletic therapy to all varsity athletes.

You must be on the roster of a varsity team to access this service.

The clinic is located within the wellness center in the Student Recreation Centre at the Doon Campus.

Services

  • Clinical assessment of acute and chronic injuries
  • Preventative taping and bracing
  • Rehabilitation of acute and chronic injuries (including manual therapy, therapeutic modalities, corrective exercises)
  • Warm and cold whirlpools.

Stacey Harper 

Lead Athletic Therapy Coordinator

Stacey has been with the Condors since 2015, progressing to the role of Lead Athletic Therapy Coordinator in 2023. Stacey graduated from Sheridan College with Honours in the Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences- Athletic Therapy program in 2017. She began her time at Conestoga in 2015 as an Athletic Therapy student working with the rugby and volleyball teams. In 2017, Stacey joined the therapy team as an Assistant Athletic Therapist and worked in that role for 3 years with various Condors teams. Stacey enjoys field work, working with many high contact sports teams outside of Conestoga, such as lacrosse and rugby. Stacey also enjoys the gym setting, having worked in multiple facilities as an Athletic Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Ryan Raftis

Athletic Therapy Coordinator

Ryan joined the Condors team in 2023 in the role of Athletic Therapy Coordinator. Ryan graduated from Sheridan College in the Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences – Athletic Therapy program in 2015.  Upon graduation, Ryan began working in the Canadian Football League with the B.C. Lions from 2015 -2017. In February 2017, Ryan joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the role of Head Athletic Therapist for 6 seasons. Ryan has obtained his Master of Science degree from McMaster University, graduating from the Rehabilitation Science program in December 2022.

Emma Elliott

Athletic Therapist
Emma joined the Condors Athletic Therapy team in August 2023 in the role of Assistant Athletic Therapist. Emma has previously completed two degrees – the first a Bachelor’s in Cross-Disciplinary Studies from Western University in 2015, and the second an Honours in Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences - Athletic Therapy from Sheridan College in 2019. Emma has experience working at the college level spending her last two years of school working with the varsity athletes at Durham College. She then moved on to work a season in the CFL as Assistant Athletic Therapist for the BC Lions for their 2019 season. Throughout the pandemic she worked within the OSBA for London’s Southwest basketball academy as well as League One's FC London Soccer club. Emma has always had a passion for working with varsity athletes and is very happy to be back working within the OCAA.

Zach Mougenot

Athletic Therapist
Zach started at Conestoga for the 2023 seasons in the role of Assistant Athletic Therapist. Zach graduated from Sheridan College with Honours in the Bachelor of Applied Health Sciences- Athletic Therapy program in 2022. Zach also completed his Bachelor of Human Kinetics from the University of Windsor in 2018. Upon graduating Zach has worked in many roles but has focused primarily on volleyball, working for both Team Ontario Beach and Women's teams for multiple seasons.
