Condors Varsity Recap February 3rd - 9th

Conestoga Condors Weekly Recap: February 3rd - 9th, 2025  

It’s another exciting week for our Condor Athletes! From wins in the volleyball playoffs to strong performances in basketball, let's see how your Condors fared in this week's varsity recap! 


Condors Volleyball 

Women’s Volleyball  

The women’s volleyball team kicked off the playoffs in style on February 8th with a massive 3 –1 upset win against the previously undefeated Seneca Sting. The Condors took the opening set 25-21 and the thrilling third 29-27. The team then carried that momentum into the fourth, dominating 25-15 to seal the victory. Abby Sluys was a standout performer, leading the Condors with 19 kills while hitting .370. Bianca Marchetti was also a key offensive force, recording 17 kills and three blocks. Serena Grant contributed with four kills on a .400 hitting percentage. With this win, the women's volleyball team advances to the quarter-finals, where they will play against Fanshawe in a road game this Saturday at 1 pm. 

 

Men’s Volleyball 

The men’s volleyball team started their post season run this past Saturday with an impressive 3-1 home victory over the George Brown Huskies. The Condors lost the first set but came back strong, taking the second, third, and fourth sets with 25-13, 26-24, and 25-20, locking down the win. Tyrell Belgrove led the Condors’ attack with 15 kills, hitting .333 while adding two service aces. Walker Kalin was also a key contributor with 12 kills and a block, while Evan Kritz recorded eight kills and three aces. The Condors were efficient on offense, finishing with a .326 hitting percentage. The team will also go on to play in the quarter-finals against St Clair in a home match this Saturday at 6 pm. 


Condors Basketball 

Women’s Basketball 

The Condors women’s team played an away game against the Lambton Lions on Friday night, the game came down to the wire but the Lions ultimately held on to win 57-50. The team got a strong start, taking an 18-15 lead after the first quarter but were unable to maintain momentum down the stretch. Some notable performances during the game include Andie Maylen and Jamila Beckford, who led the scoring for Conestoga with 14 points each. Beckford also dominated the boards with 13 rebounds, while Maddy Weber contributed 9 points and 11 rebounds.  

 

Men’s Basketball 

The men’s team also went up against the Lambton Lions on February 7th but also fell to a 55-52 loss. The Condors lost the first quarter but responded in the second, cutting the deficit to five at halftime and surging in the third, outscoring the Lions 19-15. Notable performances include Ozay Davis leading the Condors with 17 points, hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Jaures Brandon Kemayou controlled the boards with a dominant 14-rebound performance while adding nine points. Kevon Nath chipped in seven points, and Landon Hart contributed six while pulling down nine rebounds. This Condors now head into post season play with the first round being a road game against Georgian College this Saturday at 3:30 pm.
