Condors Varsity Weekly Recap - February 25th - March 3rd

 


What a week it has been for the Condors as we soar to victory! Let's delve into the latest highlights and results:

Quote Of the Week

"Going into the OCAA regional tournament, we were determined to make it out of our group and confident we could accomplish this goal. Being able to play and defeat the national champions was something I didn't think would happen during my time at Conestoga. It was a surreal moment. We came to compete and showed every team why we deserved to be here. We look to continue this momentum into provincials." Said Megan Voutour, a 5th-year Women's Soccer Player.

The Highlights

Women's Indoor Soccer – The Women's Indoor Soccer team displayed unwavering determination and skill at the OCAA Regional Tournament held at the Ontario Soccer Centre on February 27th. Winning all four games, the Condors left the tournament at the top of their pool. A notable highlight includes a 2-0 win against Seneca, the reigning Outdoor Women’s National Champions. The team's disciplined performance and hard work showcased their capabilities and produced impressive results. Game scores as follows:

Game scores unfolded as follows:

  • Conestoga 2 – Sheridan 1 (Goals scored by Ella Chase and Marika Villa)
  • Conestoga 5 – Lakehead Orillia 1 (Goals scored by Megan Heyes, Alex Oestreicher, Ashely Blazek, Lily Triantafiou, and Ella Chase)
  • Conestoga 2 – Seneca 0 (Goals scored by Ella Chase and Abby White)
  • Conestoga 6 – Confederation 0 (Goals scored by Alex Oestreicher, Ashely Blazek, Haley Macarthur, Lily Triantafiou (2), & Megan Voutour)

With this first-place pool finish, the women's team has secured qualification for the OCAA Final 8 Championship scheduled for March 7-8 at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Men's Indoor Soccer – The Men's Indoor Soccer team also experienced victory, winning all four games at the OCAA Regional Tournament on February 26th hosted by Conestoga College. Their stellar performance positioned them at the top of their pool, demonstrating a continuation of success from their outdoor season and last year's bronze medal in the indoor soccer season.

Game scores were as follows:

  • Conestoga 6 – Lambton 0
  • Conestoga 5 – Redeemer 1
  • Conestoga 4 – Centennial 3
  • Conestoga 3 – St. Clair 0

Securing the first-place pool finish, the Men's team has earned qualification for the OCAA Final 8 Championship on March 7-8 at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Esports

Student Success Week made for a quiet couple of weeks at Condors Esports with not much gameplay to experience, but many wins across all titles, nonetheless.

Week of February 19th: 

Valorant White – The Valorant White team came into this week with a winning mindset, dominating the competition with a 2-0 victory against Keiser University (ECAC)!

Call of Duty - The Call of Duty team experienced an interesting mix-up this week with two academy team players joining in to play, resulting in a change of pace playstyle, but it was still an excellent match with the Condors grabbing a 3 -1 victory over University of North Carolina (NACE)!

League of Legends - The victories keep rolling in for the League of Legends varsity team with a well-played 2-0 victory against Bradley University!

Week of February 26th: 

Rocket League – The Rocket League team put the success into Student Success Week with an excellent, dominating 3 - 0 victory against North Carolina University (NACE)!

Valorant Gold –  The Valorant Gold Team was able to catch some action at the end of the week with a 2 - 0 win against the University of South Florida (ECAC)!

Players to Watch

Ella Chase, Women's Indoor Soccer -  OCAA All-Star, had an outstanding Regional tournament. She showed her ability to score timely goals. Her pace and dribbling ability make her a major attacking threat every time she is on the ball.

Ashley Blazek, Women's Indoor Soccer – Ashley is an important player in central midfield. Her biggest strengths are her technical ability, passing and outstanding vision to create chances in the attacking third.

Maddy Sloan, Women's Indoor Soccer – Maddy is a big presence in goal; her shot-stopping ability, leadership, and outstanding distribution with the ball at her feet allow the team to retain possession and build out from the back.

Megan Voutour, Women's Indoor Soccer – Megan's leadership, tremendous work ethic, energy and ability to score timely goals make her another player to watch for the Condors at the upcoming Provincial tournament.

Alex Tutunjian, Men's Indoor Soccer - Alex brought his A-game to training, earning a well-deserved starting spot after making waves on the second and third lines during tournament play. As he stepped onto the field, Alex made an instant impact, elevating the intensity of the first line's energy. He also scored a couple of excellent goals, playing a pivotal role in the Men's Indoor Soccer team finishing 1st in their Pool at Regionals with a flawless 4-0 record.
