CONESTOGA CONDORS OCAA BADMINTON INVITATIONAL RECAP

The Conestoga Condors hosted the OCAA Badminton Invitational on January 31st and February 1st, competing against some of the province's top athletes. Several Condors advanced through multiple rounds in various categories, showcasing their skills and determination.

In men's singles, Pravin Viswanathan and Nolan Bridge secured first-round victories, with Pravin winning 21-13, 21-14, and Nolan winning 21-18, 16-21, 21-17. Both players fell in their second-round matches.

On the women’s side, Nandini Sharma fought hard in a close first-round match (21-18, 18-21, 19-21), and Mariam Muqeem also competed well before being knocked out in the opening round.

In men’s doubles, Pravin Viswanathan and AJ Vitin triumphed in their first-round match (21-19, 21-15), while Max Barnes and Kashyap Bangalore Thirumalesha battled through a three-set match (17-21, 22-20, 21-16). Ryan Tu and Nolan Bridge advanced to the semifinals of the men’s doubles consolation bracket with wins over teams from Cambrian and Humber.

In women’s doubles, Mariam Muqeem and Nandini Sharma reached the quarterfinals after a solid second-round win (21-16, 21-12) against a Cambrian-Humber duo. Hetviben Patel and Ananya Rengarajan fought through the consolation bracket but lost in the quarterfinals.

The mixed doubles category featured standout performances from Ryan Tu and Mandy Ni, who dominated their first-round match (21-9, 21-4), and Nolan Bridge and Yrhicka Lozano, who fought back from a set down to win (19-21, 21-13, 21-10). Pravin Viswanathan and Nandini Sharma advanced to the mixed doubles consolation semifinals.

The Condors displayed resilience and teamwork throughout the tournament, setting the stage for a strong performance at the upcoming OCAA Championships on February 14th and 15th hosted by the Condors at the Student Recreation Centre - Doon Campus.
