Avery Sutton Announced as the Condors Men’s Basketball Head Coach

The Conestoga Condors are excited to announce Avery Sutton as the Head Coach of Mens Basketball.

Associate Director, Sports and Recreation, Andrew Bates expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, saying, "We are very pleased to have appointed Avery Sutton as the Head Coach of the Condors Men's Basketball team.  He has worn Condor colours for a number of years already as a past player and assistant coach, and it was a natural progression for him to transition into this leadership role.  Avery's combination of basketball knowledge, composure under pressure and strong leadership abilities will serve him well as head coach, and we're looking forward to building upon this past season's achievements with him."

Avery has been with the team since its reintroduction in 2017 and has played an instrumental role in building the foundation for a successful program. During his three years as a player, Avery demonstrated not only his skill on the court but also his outstanding leadership off the court. This made his transition to an assistant coaching role a natural fit. Coach Sutton has since used his experience as a player to inform his coaching style. Avery understands the support and the types of relationships needed to foster a successful program. As Head Coach, Coach Sutton is committed to supporting the players and helping them develop their confidence, leadership skills, and on court ability.

The Condors are coming off a season that culminated in a provincial quarter-final appearance, and the team is committed to building another historic season with Coach Sutton at the helm.

In accepting the position, Coach Sutton stated, "I'm honoured and excited to be the new Head Coach of the Conestoga Men's Basketball Program. We must aspire to be the best version of ourselves daily by creating a positive environment through coach mentorship and strong positive peer support to overcome basketball and life's hurdles. This is a great opportunity for growth and development for community influencers such as myself and the young men in this program. Our commitment to each other and the journey ahead will be the foundation for steps moving forward."

We, at Conestoga, are thrilled to have Coach Sutton as our new Head Coach and look forward to the continued growth of Condors Basketball.
