Men's Indoor Soccer Recap - March 3, 2020

Conestoga Condor's Men's Varsity Soccer team travelled to Redeemer College on Monday to partake in this season's Regionals. Success would see the side, coached by Peter Mackie, advance to Provincials next week.

The men started the day with an exciting match against George Brown. Jonny Monney opened the scoring in the first half before Malachi Ramsay doubled the Condor's lead. George Brown clawed back a goal seconds before the first half ended. George Brown completed the comeback in the second half to win the game 3-2.

The men's next match was against Laurier Brantford. This game would end up being a much simpler task for the side, with Monney scoring a hat-trick. Zach Gingerich and Connor McGrandles also scored, with goalkeeper Jacob Myers earning a clean sheet to win the match 5-0.

Redeemer were up next, with this match proving to be the deciding factor for who would advance to provincials next week. Greg Vair put the Condor's up 1-0 early in the match before the hosts equalized shortly after. However, Ramsay was on hand again to score a superb finish to regain the lead.

Despite taking a 2-1 lead heading into half time, Redeemer scored their second and third goal in the second half. The Condor's season was at serious risk, but Vair equalized once again with just a few minutes left. But the game wasn't over. The Condor's were on the receiving end of a Redeemer onslaught before Monney charged up the field on the counter-attack. His shot was saved, but Ramsay smashed in the rebound to win it in the last second of the match.

All that was needed to advance was a win against St. Lawrence in the side's final game. The Condor's made light work of a tired Vikings side, winning the game 5-1. Monney, scored four goals, with Reza Ullah scoring the fifth.

The men now await their draw for next week's Provincials where they will look to extend their impressive run of form.

"My coaching staff and I are thrilled for the lads," said Mackie. "But the job is not done and we are fully focused on preparing for next week."

The men have just over a week to prepare for next week's Provincials where they will face some of the province's top teams.
