Part-time Administrative Contract Position
The Head Coach is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the technical, tactical, and physical components of a Varsity Rugby program. This program must prepare the student-athlete for successful competition within the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA). This is a part-time position that requires evening, weekend, and periodic weekday daytime hours. Salary commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities:
- Develops the overall Rugby program plan for including a comprehensive strategy around training, practices, games, and program excellence
- Identifies and recruiting academically strong student-athletes
- Creates and facilitates a multi-year athlete recruitment program
- In collaboration with the Athletics Department, supports the development of recruitment events to increase awareness and profile of the Rugby Program.
- Maintains effective communications and administrative systems amongst coaches, players, athletic, and facility staff
- Completes adherence to and support of CCAA, OCAA, and Conestoga policies and procedures
- Organizes and leads related competitions and activities (e.g. tournaments, clinics, etc.)
- Ensures program goals and objectives are aligned with the Department of Athletics Mission, Vision, and Values
- Provides an inclusive and holistic environment for student-athlete development
- Oversees adherence and expectations required by the Department of Athletics in regards to academics, student behaviours, and other outcomes as required
- Develops and fosters relationships to help boost and enhance the Rugby program (Alumni, community members, fundraising events, etc.)
General Aspects of the Program
- The competitive season begins in September and runs until end of October; with Ontario Championships held in early November.
- The team practices multiple times a week and participates in a seasonal high-performance training program
- The off-season training program will take place once a week from May to August
- Support personnel includes assistant coaches and an athletic therapist who are present at practices and games
Qualifications:
- Must have demonstrated a previous high level of leadership and successful coaching performance
- Minimum four years of experience coaching 16 to 24-year old and/or young adults
- Possessing four or more years of coaching at the Collegiate Level is considered an asset
- Hold a minimum of NCCP Train to Train Certification, with Train to Compete Certifications an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge and implementation of student-athlete recruitment strategies
- Proven and established relationships with regional/provincial high school and club coaches/contacts to support recruitment initiatives
- Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Sound administrative skills and strong motivational abilities
- Be committed to fair play and represent Conestoga professionally at all times
- The candidate must hold values consistent with those of Conestoga College in developing student-athletes with strong academic standards while cultivating a competitive Badminton program
- The candidate would be required to provide proof of a Vulnerable Sector check or have one completed
