Matthew Schnarr Awarded the OVA Coach of the Year

The Conestoga Condors are pleased to announce that Matthew Schnarr, our Manager of Varsity & Athletic Operations, has been honoured with the prestigious Mike Bugarski Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) Coach of the Year award.

Matthew humbly expressed, "The OVA Coach of the Year award is a direct reflection of the quality athletes I have coached over my 20-year coaching career. The character, commitment, and humility the athletes have demonstrated have provided me with the space for growth, vulnerability, and joy. I am truly grateful and honoured to have received this recognition but share this honour wholeheartedly with my mentors, former coaches/athletes, and my family."

The Mike Bugarski Coach of the Year Award is awarded annually to a male coach who has achieved remarkable success in the previous season while making significant contributions to the growth of volleyball within the province.

Matthew's unwavering dedication and diligent efforts have truly set him apart in the realm of Ontario volleyball. Andrew Bates, Associate Director, Sports & Recreation added, “We are thrilled for Matthew to have received the Coach of the Year award from the Ontario Volleyball Association. He has a tremendous passion for athlete development and has dedicated much of his time to developing young athletes into their full potential at many levels.  His decorated volleyball career reflects his unmatched work ethic and overall coaching abilities.  We are fortunate to have someone with his coaching pedigree leading the Condor coaches at Conestoga College. Congratulations, Matthew!”

Matthew's commitment to fostering the development of young volleyball athletes at the local, provincial, and national levels has garnered widespread recognition. Under his coaching leadership, the Smash Raiders Volleyball Club U18 Voltage team attained an impressive top-8 provincial finish this year. Further building upon this success, the team earned a notable second-place finish at tier 3 Canadian Nationals. Additionally, the team has achieved success beyond the borders, as their recent tournament victory in Detroit has garnered them a spot in the highly anticipated AAU US Nationals, scheduled to take place in Orlando, Florida from June 14th to June 17th, 2023.

The Conestoga Condors family extends heartfelt congratulations to Matthew for this well-deserved and career-defining accolade. We take immense pride in Matthew’s achievement and wish the best of luck to the Smash Raiders Volleyball Club U18 Voltage team when they take the court in Orlando!
