Overview
The Student Health Promotor is responsible for motivation and guidance of Conestoga Students health behaviours. The incumbent should be interested in the wellness idea creation, program facilitation, program assessment of Wellness Programming in the Athletics & Recreation Department with the support and assistance of their supervisor. The position is hybrid, having work from home capabilities, as well as on campus support at the Doon campus. The position will be scheduled for up to 10-15 hours per week, depending on department needs. The rate of pay is $17.63 per hour. The training start date will be early April 2025 with regular hours to follow, depending on department needs.
Roles and Responsibilities

Create fitness, wellness & general health promotion material for programming needs and various social media campaigns

Must be comfortable making educational videos and hosting student workshops providing information on wellness & fitness activities, with the guidance and support of their supervisor.

Assist in idea generation and review of student recreation and wellness activities, with the goal to increase student physical activity and overall wellness.

Qualifications
-
Be in a full-time degree, diploma or certificate program in the upcoming semester approved for funding by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU).

Maintain a full-time course load in the upcoming term. Part time studies may be allowed for students who are registered with Accessibility Services and require a reduced load

Maintain a satisfactory academic progress – passing 60% of courses and actively progressing through program

Have a valid Social Insurance Number

Available to work daytime, evening and/or weekend work hours

Fitness Certification (OFC, CSEP, CanFitPro, NSCA, etc.)

Six months experience in a work-related field

Interest in educating others, experience with team leadership considered an asset

General nutrition, sleep, stress reduction & wellness knowledge, or ability to find evidence based best practices

Strong communication skills (written & verbal)
Preference will be given to students eligible for Work Study. Additional paperwork is not required at the time of application. Work Study eligibility includes the following requirements:
International Students Must:

Hold a valid Canadian study permit that allows on-campus employment

Adhere to all requirements stated on their study permit & Canadian student visa

Provide a digital copy of their Study and Work permits
Domestic Students Must:
-
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person (under the immigration act)

Be eligible for OSAP, or another province’s student financial assistance program and show at least one dollar of need on their assessment. Or, be in receipt of funding from a First Nations band, or similar sponsoring agency, and provide a budget demonstrating financial need

Provide a letter of explanation and budget demonstrating financial need if they are restricted from OSAP or another Provincial Government student assistance program. Restricted students are expected to be working toward bringing their student aid status back into good standing
