Overview 

The Facility Attendant is responsible for providing front-line customer service at the front desk and various facilities of the Student Recreation Centre. Duties include; front desk customer service, sales transactions, facility access monitoring, equipment lending, facility set-up and tear-down for programs and events, varsity game day support, break coverage, and other duties as assigned. The position will be scheduled up to 10-15 hours per week at the Doon campus, depending on department needs. The rate of pay is $17.20 per hour. The training start date will be April 2025, with regular hours to follow, depending on department needs. 

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Provide essential front-line customer service at the front desk. Provide information to students/members regarding services, programs, and memberships. Process transactions including sales, activity registrations, and bookings.  

  • Monitor facility access at front gates 

  • Provide support with student/member engagement initiatives 

  • Monitor activities throughout the facility and aid members as required. Monitor and enforce policies such as monitoring facility access, usage by members only, and safety 

  • Organize facility athletic equipment and storage spaces. Clean facility and athletic equipment-based user needs. Examples include spectator seating following varsity games, disinfecting varsity game balls, etc. 

  • Set up and tear down facility and equipment preparations for varsity practices and game days, recreational student programming, external user group rental requests, and events, etc.  

  • First Aid Certification preferred 

  • Other duties as required 

Qualifications 

  • Be in a full-time degree, diploma or certificate program in the upcoming semester, that has been approved for funding by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) 

  • Maintain a full-time course load upcoming term. Part time studies may be allowed for students who are registered with Accessibility Services and require a reduced load 

  • Maintain a satisfactory academic progress – passing 60% of courses and actively progressing through program 

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number 

  • Available to work daytime, evening, and/or weekend work hours 

 

Preference will be given to students who are Work Study eligible. Additional paperwork is not required at the time of application. Work Study eligibility includes the following requirements: 

International Students Must: 

  • Hold a valid Canadian study permit that allows on-campus employment 

  • Adhere to all requirements stated on their study permit & Canadian student visa 

  • Provide a digital copy of their Study and Work permits  

Domestic Students Must: 

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person (under the immigration act)  

  • Be eligible for OSAP, or another province’s student financial assistance program and show at least one dollar of need on their assessment. Or, be in receipt of funding from a First Nations band, or similar sponsoring agency, and provide a budget demonstrating financial need 

  • Provide a letter of explanation and budget demonstrating financial need if they are restricted from OSAP or another Provincial Government student assistance program. Restricted students are expected to be working toward bringing their student aid status back into good standing
