Overview 

The Esports Lead is the daily attendant to guide the students at Conestoga College using esports facilities and/or satellite campus esports activity. The incumbent should be passionate about video games & esports with a strong IT background to field various hardware and software troubleshooting scenarios. The incumbent will ensure a safe, efficient, and responsible use of esports facilities and activity which serves many stakeholders in our college community. Through the successful execution of this role, statistics and student feedback should also be documented to help guide programming to best serve the student community.  The position will be scheduled up to 10-15 hours per week, dependent on department needs. The rate of pay is $17.63 per hour. The training start date will be April 2025 with regular hours to follow, depending on department needs. 

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for the daily operations of the gaming PC's, gaming consoles and affiliated peripherals in esports facilities or activity sites.   

  • Provide customer service, support inquiries, guide programming in esports facilities or activity sites.   

  • Function as the primary IT and technology support person during their shift to provide optimal use of the space.  

  • Troubleshoot with athletes, students, and guest to ensure technology and software is working as intended during their engagement with esports facilities and activities.  

  • Check in students and guests using the “ggLeap” interface for coordinated use of esports facilities.  

  • Assist in the planning of events, recreation tournaments and activities. 

  • Report needs around software, game and hardware repair and procurement. 

  • Report student traffic and analytics to best guide operations and staffing. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications  

  • Be in a full-time degree, diploma or certificate program in the upcoming semester, that has been approved for funding by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU). 

  • Maintain a full-time course load in the upcoming term, unless on a scheduled academic break. Part time studies may be allowed for students who are registered with Accessibility Services and require a reduced load 

  • Maintain a satisfactory academic progress – passing 60% of courses and actively progressing through program 

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number 

  • Available to work daytime, evening and/or weekend work hours 

  • Proficient in the field of IT 

  • Knowledge of esports equipment, events, and popular games (PC and/or Console)  

  • Strong technical & problem-solving skills 

  • Strong customer service skills  

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) 

 

Preference will be given to students who are Work Study eligible. Additional paperwork is not required at the time of application. Work Study eligibility includes the following requirements:

International Students Must: 

  • Hold a valid Canadian study permit that allows on-campus employment 

  • Adhere to all requirements stated on their study permit & Canadian student visa 

  • Provide a digital copy of their Study and Work permits  

Domestic Students Must: 

  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person (under the immigration act)  

  • Be eligible for OSAP, or another province’s student financial assistance program and show at least one dollar of need on their assessment. Or , be in receipt of funding from a First Nations band, or similar sponsoring agency, and provide a budget demonstrating financial need 

  • Provide a letter of explanation and budget demonstrating financial need if they are restricted from OSAP or another Provincial Government student assistance program. Restricted students are expected to be working toward bringing their student aid status back into good standing
