2023 Women's Volleyball Season Preview
Reflecting on Last Year’s Successes
The Conestoga Women’s Volleyball Team is getting ready for what promises to be an exhilarating and action-packed season. With an amazing record of 14-4 last year, the team secured a strong second place in the West. The team is determined to make an even more significant impact this upcoming season!
The Condors had plenty to celebrate last season, including a historic victory in their first home play-off game, which deserves an honorable mention of their 3-0 win. Despite their loss in the quarter finals to Mohawk, it was a season of putting things in place on the court. With many key players returning, the Conestoga Women’s Volleyball Team is ready to build on their successes.
Returning Players
The Condors are excited to welcome back some key players who will continue to guide the team on their journey for greatness. Holly Phipp, is returning as the captain of the team and will be the on-court leader to quarterback the defence. Coach Kelly explains that Phipp’s leadership and experience are vital to the team’s success.
Bianca Marchetti, who had an incredible season last year, is back and better than ever, prepared to build on her unbelievable achievements. She was named the OCAA Rookie of the Year, claimed the West scoring title, and led in aces, blocks and kills. Bianca set a Condor record for points with an astonishing 276! She is undeniably a force to be reckoned with on the court.
Additions to the Roster
The team is also excited to welcome a large and promising recruiting class. Out of nine new players, a name that stood out to Coach Kelly is Rachel O’Dell, she is one of the most dynamic athletes to ever join Conestoga. O’Dell is expected to make a big impact by helping carry the offensive loadfrom the left side of the court.
Amanda Lago will be stepping in as the new starting setter, a very crucial position in for the squad. Lago’s ability to distribute the ball effectively and confidently while making precise decisions will be key to the team’s performance.
Faith Bauman will be taking on the role of the right side. Her powerful skills and determination are expected to be an addition to the team’s existing strength and overall success.
Setting Ambitious Goals to Success
The team’s goals for this season are clear and motivational. After exceeding expectations last year with a lot of first year athletes, the Condors are setting their sights on maintaining that elite level of play, reaching the final eight, and taking the next steps towards the podium. Their current focus going into the season is building upon their success to ensure continued excellence in women’s volleyball at Conesotga.
