Marcel played 3 seasons for Conestoga, and in all 3 seasons, he was an Ontario all-star in outdoor soccer. He is Conestoga Condor's all-time leading goal scorer. In his graduating year, Marcel captained the Condors and led them to their first-ever Gold Medal for indoor soccer. Such was the impact of that victory that the Condors have now played in the Ontario Indoor Gold Medal game for five successive years. It was the Desmeules inspired team that first showed that it was possible for Conestoga to compete with and beat the more prominent colleges around the system. 

Marcel's primary attributes as a player are his speed off the mark, a keen positional sense in front of goal, a lethal low shot, and an even temperament that allows him to suffer the indignities that goal-scoring forwards are prone to without retaliation or whining. The even-tempered disposition also made him an ideal choice to captain the Condors. His selection as All-Canadian and Conestoga's Athlete Of The Year in his graduating year was well merited.
