Condors Celebrate achievements with Varsity Awards Banquet

The Conestoga Condors completed their 2018-19 Varsity season by celebrating their achievements during their 51st annual Varsity Awards Banquet.

41 student-athletes were recognized with the OCAA All-Academic Awards, whereby they achieved a GPA of 3.75 or above during the Fall Semester.

Conestoga Students INC presented their annual Varsity Scholarship awards to 11 athletes who achieved a GPA of 3.25 or higher and demonstrated leadership, commitment and dedication to their respective teams.

42 student-athletes received a Varsity Athletic Scholarship this season, earned through their athletic abilities and contributions towards excellence in their sport.

All teams handed out their individual award winners for the Coach, Rookie and MVP awards.

Conestoga Varsity Athletics was pleased to recognize long-time Conestoga Vice-President Mike Dinning for his contribution and commitment to Varsity Athletics. For the first time, the Coach of the Year Award will now be recognized as the Mike Dinning Condors Coach of the Year Award in his honor. Earning this Award for this season was Men's Volleyball Head Coach Wayne Harris. This is the second year in a row that Coach Harris has received this honor, leading the team to its second straight berth in the OCAA Provincials and finishing 5th in the Province. The Department thanked Coach Harris for his dedication and commitment as we will miss his presence with the announcement of his retirement from Coaching.

The evening finished with recognizing our Condors Female and Male Athletes of the year.

This season's Female Athlete of the Year went to Amanda Hutchings. Amanda was a two-sport athlete this season for the Condors. As a member of the Cross-Country team, she had a great race at the Provincials to qualify her to race in the Nationals. Demonstrating her great athletic abilities, Amanda joined the Badminton team in January and competed in mixed-doubles, just missing out on placing to compete at the Provincials.

Wesley Lau became one of the most decorated Condors student-athletes in the history of Condors Athletics. The 5th year Men's Volleyball All-Star had another outstanding season earning many accolades. This included breaking the 1,000 point barrier, leading the team in total points and points per match and guided the team to another solid 5th place finish at the Provincials. Wesley was also recognized as an OCAA first-team all-star, CCAA All-Canadian Award and took home the prestigious OCAA Player of the Year Award.
