Part A: Conestoga Recreation Governing Rules

 

  1. Every participant, player, captain, referee and league staff will all have an active part in ensuring that the guidelines list here as well as the code of conduct are upheld.

 

  1. Ice Hockey is governed by the policies and rules set forth here and in the General Handbook.

 

  1. All official’s decisions are final for all decisions regarding gameplay. Any verbal or physical abuse will result in an automatic 3 game suspension.

  2. Any player under the influence of alcohol or other illegal drugs will be immediately suspended for the remainder of the league AND all other intramural sports.

  3. Any player, official, participant, or spectator found in possession of alcohol or any illegal drugs before, during and/or after scheduled Intramural game times will immediately be suspended for the remainder of the league AND all other intramural sports. This includes but is not limited to the dressing room, hallways, and parking lots of which all areas are considered public, community space.

 

Part B: Team Captain

 

  1. The team captain must be familiar with all rules and guidelines, and inform players of all rules and conduct expectations.

  2. Each team must identify their team captain at the beginning of each game. If the captain is not present, the team will nominate a player to be acting captain for that game. This person will take on all duties and responsibilities as the actual captain. This person will be identified as the acting captains on the score sheet.

  3. It is the team captain's duty to know his/her duties and responsibilities before the game begins.

  4. Only the captain should be speaking with the referees during the game time. Players who wish to discuss any issue with a referee must ask the captain to speak on their behalf.

  5. It is each captain's responsibility to have the team roster ready on the score sheet by the start of game time.

  6. Any concerns that a captain may have regarding officiating should contact the sports convener in a timely and respectful manner.

 

Intramural Ice Hockey Rules

 

Part C: The Teams

 

  1. All players must be full-time Doon/Cambridge campus students with valid student cards. Participants must be on a team roster and only play for one team. If a player plays on an additional team the team will be awarded a default. All participants require student cards to gain entry into the gym.

  2. A team will play with 6 members including a dressed goalie. If at any time a team has less than 6 players for a game (eg. Due to penalties. Ejection, etc.), the game is a forfeit. If a team does not have a dressed goalie, they may play with 6 skaters. If any team member is in doubt of their eligibility, they should speak with their team captain, the Convener or the Recreation and Fitness Coordinator.

  3. Ice Hockey is a Co-ed sport, though it is not mandatory.

  4. If a team cannot attend a game, they must give at least a minimum of three full business days’ notice to the league convener and/or Recreation and Fitness Coordinator (ie. Wednesday game must be notified by Friday, Thursday 12:30 am game must be notified by Friday).

 

Part D: Equipment

  1. All Players must have C.S.A approved equipment. Full equipment and Full facemasks are required. No Cats eyes for goalies. Helmets may be signed out prior to the game with a student card.

  2. All players must have the same color shirt with different numbers. $10, a driver’s license or car keys are required for a dressing room key, It is recommended to lock your dressing room. Conestoga College will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items.

 

  1. No jewelry (unless properly taped down), non elastic headbands, or hard support braces are allowed during game time. During the game, players found with such items will be asked to leave play until the item is removed.

  2. The butt end of the Hockey stick MUST be taped.

  3. Players will not be allowed on the ice with improper equipment, which includes shoulder pads and neck guards.

 

Part E: General Game Rules

 

  1. Time: A 3-minute warmup will begin as soon as the Olympia doors are closed. The 1st & 2nd period will be 10 minutes stop time. The 3rd period will be 12-minutes stop time. Run time will be in effect if the goal difference is 5 or greater. A quick whistle will be in effect if changes are taking too long.

  2. Teams will vacate the locker room within 20 minutes of the end of their game.

  3. According to the CHA Referee--‐in--‐Chief under clarification of "Zero Tolerance", if an official feels he/she is being shown disrespect in any form by a player or team official, the appropriate penalty MUST be assessed. It is IMPERATIVE that all officials apply this rule emphasis in order for it to have any last effect on the game. Coaches and players must strive to eliminate all forms of abuse directed at game officials.

  4. Substitutions may be made at any time during the game.

  5. No timeouts will be called at any point during the game.

  6. All referee and off ice officials decisions are final. Any verbal or physical abuse of these referees or officials will result in an automatic 3 game suspension and a meeting with the Recreation and Fitness Coordinator before being re-entered into the league.

Part F: Penalties

 

  1. All penalties will be called in accordance with Hockey Canada.

  2. Minor penalties will be 2 minutes in length (3 minutes during runtime). Major penalties will be 5 minutes in length (7 minutes during runtime) and a game misconduct. All penalties start when the puck is dropped.

  3. Any player receiving 3 minor penalties in one game will be ejected from that game. Any double minor penalty will count as 2 penalties. Any major penalty will result in the player being ejected from the game.

  4. Any Player receiving a fighting penalty, checking from behind, Contact with the head, butt-ending or spearing will be suspended for a minimum of 3 games.

  5. If a player receives a direct Game Misconduct or Match Penalty will be ineligible to play until meeting with the Recreation and Fitness Coordinator.

 

  1. Good sportsmanship must be followed. Players showing poor sportsmanship may be asked to leave the gym.

 

  1. Any player playing under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs WILL be immediately suspended from all intramural sports.

 

  1. Fighting in any form will result in a default and the offending captain(s) and team(s) will be subject to a suspension.

 

Part G: Playoffs

 

  1. All playoff games are single elimination.

  2. Tied: If the score is tied after regulation, an NHL shootout occur. If still tied after, a sudden death shootout will begin until a winner determined.

 

Players must play at least 50% of the team's games to be eligible for playoffs
