Women's Indoor Soccer Recap - March 3, 2020

Conestoga Condor's Women's Varsity Soccer team took part in this season's Regionals on Monday. The competition was hosted by Redeemer College.

The women's day started off tough, facing a strong Humber side. The Condors put in a good effort but ultimately conceded two goals, losing the match 2-0.

However, the side responded well in their second game, comfortably beating Laurier Brantford 3-0. Sophia Pereira scored two goals to give the Condor's a comfortable lead before Veronica Reyes scored the side's third goal. Jessica Burgess earned herself a clean sheet with some impressive saves.

The next game was a big one for Peter Mackie’s side as they faced Redeemer. The hosts took the lead before the Condor's captain Nicole Nusselder equalized. Unfortunately for Conestoga, the Royals scored a second and third goal to win the vital match.

In their last match of the day, Mackie's side dispatched St. Lawrence Vikings 4-0. Kaya Kochut, Hailey Teixeira, Kennedy Schmalz and Reyes all scored a goal each. Burgess and Dana Schaffner shared the clean sheet, playing a half each.

Unfortunately for the women the two wins and two losses weren't enough to see them advance to Provincials next week.

"I am extremely proud of this team," said Mackie. "The dedication that these players have shown to the program is commendable."

While the current season is over, Mackie and his coaching staff are eager for the beginning of the 2020 Fall season.
